Billy Campbell’s Advice to Our Students
Quality wins out in the long run, whether it's in business, sales,
service, or your personal relationships.
Guard your reputation fiercely. People know who's honest. Once you've
crossed the line, it's tough to come back.
Be a leader. If you always do your best; if you stand up when most
people want to sit down; if you say no, when the easy thing to do
is to just say yes and follow the crowd—then you are a leader!
Stand
up for what's right. If you don't stand for something, you'll
fall for anything! …
Try things that take you out of your comfort zone. The most exciting
part about being young is that you are the future and if you'll
go for it, the future is yours.
At last count, I've visited 75 countries. Seek internships, summer
jobs, family vacations, exchange programs and scholarships that
allow you to visit places and people that you've never experienced.
Read whenever you can…learn to speak Spanish, Arabic or Chinese—in
the future, these will be differentiating skills.
Look
for heroes. Heroes will inspire you to be better, more caring and
loving individuals.
To make one person's life better is the greatest gift you can offer
while you're alive.
The wonderful character Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter and
the Chamber of Secrets said, "It is our CHOICES that show
what we truly are, far more than our abilities." Eleanor Roosevelt
beautifully pronounced, "The world needs dreamers, and the
world needs doers, but what the world really needs, is dreamers
who do.”
