05/07/08 Highlights April 2008: It All Starts Here

The Honorable Judge John Kittredge '75, currently the South Carolina Court of Appeals Judge, will become the newest member of the South Carolina Supreme Court. Congratulations John and Lila '78!

02/4/08 Sallie Small Holder '97 has been named the 2008 Young Professional of the Year for her leadership and community involvement at the 119th Annual Meeting of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce.

Sallie is a labor and employment attorney with Leatherwood, Walker, Todd and Mann. Currently board chair for the Carolina Ballet Theatre, she also serves on the boards of the Children's Museum, the S.C. Children's Theatre, and your CCES Alumni Board.

On Friday, January 25, two distinguished alumni gave separate presentations to the boys and girls in the Middle School. In an assembly for the fifth through eighth-grade girls, Maylon Hanold '81, an inaugural member of the CCES Sports Hall of Fame and a member of the 1992 Olympic Whitewater Kayak Team, spoke about her journey from CCES to the Olympic Games in Barcelona. She encouraged students to work hard and persevere to reach their goals and to accept adversity as a way to learn about themselves.

Also on Jan. 25, the Middle School boys enjoyed a special assembly with Mills Ariail '91, also a member of the CCES Sports Hall of Fame and the only alumnus to have his football jersey retired. He spoke about teamwork, integrity, honesty, and the lasting friendships that started for him while playing football--first at CCES, then at college, and finally in the pros as a member of the Seattle Seahawks team. These same values, he told the boys, guide him daily in his current job as a local attorney with Anderson, Fayssoux and Chastain.

Don't miss Missy Park '80, founder of Title 9 Sports, a sports apparel company exclusively for women, in Deborah Reber's book, In Their Shoes.

This inspirational book highlights extraordinary women as they describe their amazing careers. In addition to her interview with Missy there is a time line of her career progress. Missy started Title 9 Sports at the age of 26 as a catalog business out of her garage and today she has eight retail stores and has shipped over twenty-five million catalogs!
