Rhett McCraw '03 (second from left) and Fletcher
McCraw '05 (second from right)
with their family in front of the Washington & Lee University
soccer stadium,
where they are the first brothers in the school's history to play
on the same
athletic team.
When
he graduated from CCES in 2003 with an IB Diploma, Rhett
McCraw was a member of the Cum Laude Society, and was named
a Palmetto Fellows Finalist by the South Carolina Commission on
Higher Education. Last year he was named a W&LScholar Athlete
by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference; his photo and soccer stats
may be found on the Washington and Lee website at http://athletics.wlu.edu/msoccer/players05/rmccraw.htm
Three
years into his college career at W&L, Rhett sent us this reflection
on his years at CCES:

"The
challenges and opportunities presented to me at Christ Church have
more that prepared me for my life in college. The challenge of the
IB program had me better prepared for the academic rigors of college
than most of my classmates. Also, the social and athletic opportunities
available at Christ Church have allowed me to fully enjoy being
part of the varsity soccer team here at W&L, as well as a member
of a fraternity and several other organizations.
"The
best part of my college experience has been being able to play soccer
with my brother, who is also a Christ Church alum.
"In
high school I always heard people saying how well Christ
Church prepared you for college classes. At the time I did not think
much about it, but now I know that that claim is more true than
I
thought possible. Even at a university as rigorous as W&L, I
have had
little trouble adjusting to the difficult classes.
"My
time as a Cavalier is what has allowed me to succeed here at W&L."
Currently
a freshman at Washington & Lee, Fletcher McCraw '05
also earned an IB Diploma at CCES. He served as 2004-05 Student
Council President and earned the 2005 Headmaster's Award. He, too,
shares a sense of Cavalier Pride, reflected in this recent e-mail:
""The
CCES community gave me many unforgettable memories and friendships
in the thirteen years that I spent there.
"As
I find myself in a different environment in college at Washingon
and Lee University, I realize the confidence and sense of pride
that goes along with being a Cavalier. I have achieved my goals
of becoming a college athlete and hard-working student, and I can
attribute these succeses to CCES."
Fletcher,
too, has a page on the W&L athletic pages at http://athletics.wlu.edu/msoccer/players05/fmccraw.htm.
Except for a somber photo, his page is currently blank, awaiting
the stats he will achieve on the Generals soccer team.
