Association of Independent Schools
Inclusivity/Diversity Conference

2008 Conference Mission
We desire to foster an environment of awareness, respect and appreciation
of all people. Our mission is to help create acceptance and inclusivity
by embracing and celebrating our differences and our commonalities.
Topics that will be addressed include teaching inclusiveness, exploring
cultural differences, and the effects of stereotypes and labeling.
2008
Keynote Speaker
Marcia P. Spiller, Head of School at The Children’s
School in Atlanta, Georgia, and NAIS board member.
2008 Conference Theme
As we reflected on the theme for the 2008 PAIS Inclusivity Conference,
we decided to emphasize the essential relationship between education
and citizenship: that what we understand in a global sense must
compel us to act in the local arena. Hence this year’s theme:
Global Perspective—Local Action.
As
the world grows smaller, it is important that we inform ourselves
about what unites us—and what divides us—in relation
to our shared humanity. We must work not only to understand the
crucial issues, but also define how we can responsibly address them
in our schools and communities.
During
this two-day conference we will allow participants time to engage
in conversations, to reflect, and to establish goals for themselves
and their schools.
