Cavalier Nation Takes Home First Place at Dragon Boat Festival

On April 21, the CCES Baseball team (under the name Cavalier Nation) participated in the sixth annual Dragon Boat Upstate Festival, held at Portman Marina on Lake Hartwell. The event raised a record-breaking $200,000 for cancer research and rehabilitation at the Greenville Hospital System Cancer Center. For its part, Christ Church Baseball raised over $4,000.

During the event, teams of twenty rowers (12 males & 8 females) and one drummer compete in rowing races. There are two qualifying heats and then three championships races for the nine fastest teams. Cavalier Nation finished 3rd and earned a spot in the final Grand Champion heat. By displaying great teamwork, Christ Church was able to win the final heat and earn 1st place overall.

According to Coach Michael Fox, "the baseball team was honored to be a part of such a great cause and looks forward to participating in the event again next year with the hopes of raising even more money for cancer research."
