Fourth grade students had an eye-opening experience when Dr.
Michael
Phillips, a local ophthalmologist, visited CCES to speak
to their class.

Dr. Phillips, father of current student Alex '10,
fascinated the students with
a discussion of the anatomy of the eye as well as a video of a cataract
surgery.

A doctor at Southern Eye Associates, Dr. Phillips
also shared a cutting
edge procedure that he uses to remove growths from the cornea.
The
visit on Tuesday, October 5, was a feature of the fourth grade IB
unit on communication. Students have learned how humans communicate
both verbally and non-verbally, about how the ears and eyes aid
in communication, and how communication affects people's feelings,
beliefs and values. Students also studied sign language, Braille
and Morse Code as a part of the unit.
