From the Director

Dear Cavalier Fans,

We are looking forward to another exciting year of Cavalier athletics. CCES has a long-standing tradition of excellence in the classroom and on the playing fields. The goals and objectives in our classrooms are often mirrored on our athletic fields and courts. Just as our students need focus, discipline, and effort to be successful in their studies; our athletic team members use the same set of skills and abilities in order to reach their team goals for the season. As they strive for success through skill development, teamwork, and disciplined effort, our student athletes will learn the importance of sportsmanship, responsibility, team cooperation, and integrity. These values will be applicable to every area of their lives.

The 2010-2011 school year was a record-breaking one for the CCES Athletic Department. We fielded a record number of teams (43) with 664 team members. More than 400 students in grades 7-12 participated on a least one team. In 2011-12, with the addition of boys and girls lacrosse teams, CCES will field a total of 45 teams!  There were numerous team and individual successes as well. Last year, four teams took home state championships (girls tennis, boys tennis, boys golf, and boys soccer). The boys soccer team set the national record with their eleventh consecutive state title. Three of our teams finished as state runner-up (boys cross country, girls track, and girls soccer). All of these successes, along with strong playoff finishes from many of our other teams, resulted in CCES winning the South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association Directors Cup for our classification. This makes the twentieth consecutive year we have ended the year as the number one ranked athletic program in the state, in our classification.

There were changes and additions to many of our athletic facilities as well. Among the athletic facility improvements completed this year was the construction of the Robertson-Navarro Baseball Pavilion, containing a concession, restrooms, and press box, and conveniently situated near the baseball and hockey fields and the new tennis courts. The six new courts, which were opened during the boys championship tennis season, replaced five older courts. New lighting, provided by a private donation in conjunction with a partnership with Hubbell Lighting, was also installed at Carson Stadium, where the bleachers were expanded to accommodate our enthusiastic home crowds. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the excellence of our coaches and student athletes, and the continued improvement of our outstanding athletic facilities, CCES continues to be a leader in South Carolina high school athletics.

Go Cavaliers,
