On Monday, October 29, 2007, Headmaster Lee Cox
delivered a “State of the School” message to an audience
of parents, trustees, faculty and staff. His address outlined current
strengths, ongoing and future challenges, and recent school initiatives.
At
the outset Dr. Cox acknowledged the expectations of our families
and the promises CCES makes to them: “We promise strong academics,
consistent individual attention, breadth and depth of opportunities,
support and guidance of a caring community, and demonstrable results
in terms of success in college and beyond. For CCES, it all starts
with our Episcopal identity and our faithfulness to those qualities—value
and values—that make us an excellent school.”
Dr.
Cox also quoted The Reverend Dan Heischman, Executive Director of
the National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES), who said,
in a recent visit to the school: “CCES is regarded as being
among a handful of schools seen as bellwethers for the health of
Episcopal school education. The vitality of an Episcopal school
always starts with the centrality of the chapel experience in the
life of the school and with the strength of the chaplaincy. There
is simply no other Episcopal school in this country that is living
out that identity more compellingly or completely than Christ Church
Episcopal School.”
However,
when comparing where we are today with where we would like to be,
Dr. Cox observed: “Given the promises that our reputation
and our credibility rest upon, CCES is in a good place. Staying
in that place, though, is not an option because the only outcomes
of standing still are to be left behind or run over.”
