What a Production!

It is a beloved Lower School tradition. Lower School parents look
forward to attending every year.
But since phots are not allowed during worship services, we took
our camera to Wednesday's rehearsal to get a glimpse of what it
takes to put together the annual Christmas Service of Lessons and
Carols.

While the children would be wearing their Sunday Christmas clothes
to the service on Thursday,

they were dressed in more casual holiday garb for rehearsal.

Of course, Thursday's service went off smoothly, but there were
moments during rehearsal when that did not seem a foregone conclusion.
Rehearsal also proved to be a tribute to the fortitude of our Lower
School teachers, especially music teacher Joy Hughes,
who selected and choreographed each of the choral and percussion
pieces performed by the students.

Each grade participated in a different selection, and each had to
assemble and disassemble quietly and efficiently at the proper time
in the service.

There was an immense amount of preparation. Above, technology teacher
Robin Yerkes, who coordinated the PowerPoint presentation
that would guide the congregation through the service, confers with
chaplain Valerie Riddle.

Sometimes, while the adults were figuring out all the logistics,
it got boring.

Other times, children got in the wrong places,

or couldn't resist a little fooling around,

or playing out of turn.

But, as always, the children were cooperative,

their classroom teachers had rehearsed them well,

and they were serious about doing a good job.

What a joy it was

to hear their earnest voices,

and to see how each child played a part

in making a joyful noise unto the Lord.

It was a beautiful sight to behold.
