Animals of the Rainforest, Desert & Oceans Take to Cavalier Stage Additional
Links: Masked and dressed as a fearsome underwater creatures, as brightly feathered birds of the rainforest, or as furry denizens of the desert, the 69 second-graders in the Lower School took to the auditorium stage in the 2006 performance of the annual Ecosystems production. The performance is the culmination of their study of desert, rainforest, and ocean ecosystems. Students in each class researched, wrote, and memorized a script about an animal and shared their knowledge at the microphone. The multi-disciplinary study also allowed students to draw pictures of their animals in a computer drawing program in the Technology Lab; their drawings were projected on a screen as they recited their lines. Music too was integrated into the performance as students mimicked the sounds of each ecosystem using percussion instruments, and sang an opening number. Each student played a part in the production, which brought Lower School students and proud parents to the auditorium for two performances. Special credit goes to second grade teachers Tammy Cornelson, Donna Qualls, Tippi Sadler, and Leigh Stewart for orchestrating the ambitious production. And to our wonderful second-graders!
