Many poets struggle for years to get published.

Not so, two second-graders in Leigh Stewart's class.

After completing a classroom unit on poetry, the two students were so enthused that they decided to write poems and submit them to a contest.

Now, Nell Gray Rasmussen and Maria Varat are soon to become published authors! Their poems will appear in the 2006 edition of the Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans.

Here are their exuberant poems:

"Seeds"
by Nell Gray Rasmussen

Seeds sprout.
They sprout all about.
They sprout all about then flowers come out.
The flowers come out.
They are beautiful no doubt.
They are beautiful no doubt.
They just make me shout.
A big huge shout that started with a little sprout.

"Christmas is Here"
by Maria Varat

Christmas is fun.
Christmas is here.
Christmas is the best time of the year.
Where you eat lots of food on Christmas Eve
And open your presents on Christmas Day.
By the looks of the food
and the happy children's faces
Christmas will be great this year!
