Artwork by Alice Ballard, CCES Middle School art teacher, is being featured in a major exhibition entitled "Tradition/Innovation: American Masterpieces of Southern Craft and Traditional Art."

The exhibit, which opened on March 1 at the Atlanta History Center in Atlanta, is the largest exhibit and most extensive tour which the Southern Arts Federation has mounted in its history. Works by 58 master traditional artists and contemporary craftspeople from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee are accompanied by a rich array of artist interviews, stories, and background information on the artists and their processes.

The tour's website, www.traditioninnovation.org, features an audio interview with Ballard, along with photos of her work and insights into the sources of her inspiration and creative process.

The exhibit, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, will run until May 18 at the Atlanta History Center, located at 130 West Paces Ferry Rd. NW in Atlanta. It will travel to Louisville, Kentucky, in May, and to Knoxville, Tennessee, in October. In all, the tour will be shown in nine Southern cities.
