With almost 10,000 titles and 22 computers, The Holliday Library is the center of activity in the Middle School. The primary purpose of the library is to serve the students and faculty. It provides a comprehensive program of information and service in an inviting and easily accessible manner, and encourages utilization by students, faculty and the school community. In providing these services, the center is an integral part and logical extension of every classroom. It supports and enhances the educational curricular objectives in an atmosphere where each student can realize his potential in intellectual, social, spiritual, and physical pursuits as stated in the philosophy of Christ Church Episcopal School.

Visiting Author - Marion Blumenthal Lazan will speak to Middle School students on Monday, September 22nd.

Mrs. Lazan gives a moving, first-hand account of the Blumenthal family's life in Germany from the events preceding Kristallnacht, to imprisonment in concentration camps, and finally to liberation in April of 1945. She asks her audiences to be tolerant of others and not stereotype individuals based on religious belief, color, race, or national origin. She stresses the importance of positive thinking as well as creativity and inner strength to overcome adversity. She warns her listeners to be true to themselves and not blindly follow the leader. Philosophy Statement of the Christ Church Episcopal School Libraries
The Christ Church Episcopal School Library program is designed to support and enhance the curricular objectives of the school community and to encourage the development of students as reflective citizens and lifelong learners. The libraries are centers of learning, study, and research, enabling students to locate, retrieve, and evaluate information. The programs encourage reading for pleasure and foster a lifelong appreciation of literature. The libraries support the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, the Middle Years Programme, and the Diploma Programme by providing materials in core languages and by reflecting the guiding principles of IBO.

The Christ Church Episcopal School Libraries have adopted the Information Literacy Standards for Student Learning prepared by the American Association of School Librarians. (Chicago: ALA, 1998) These standards serve as the framework for the instructional goals and objectives of the library programs. The librarians, in close collaboration with the teachers, promote the integration for these goals and objectives across the curriculum within the context of classroom assignments. The libraries provide a wide range of both print and non-print sources that support educational excellence and intellectual freedom.
