Middle School Librarian Kay Daniel would like to say thank you to Harry Potter. At 784 pages, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was a big contributor to the amazing total of 604,357 pages read by the Middle School this summer, the second highest total in the history of the Middle School reading competition.

Coach Jennifer Numberger led the faculty readers with 10,049 pages, reading two popular novel series. If you need a recommendation from the SC Junior Book Award list, check with Nancy Scott in the Middle School office; she read every book on the list. Favorites were Hitch by Jeanette Ingold, Princess Academy by Shannon Hale and Cryptide Hunters by Roland Smith.

The seventh grade out-read the rest of the Middle School grades with 175,320 pages. The top reader in the seventh grade was Will Robichaud, with Kay Adair, Emily Allen, Will Hamilton, Mattea Koon, Alexander Olson, Chris Ott, and Ava Polstra not far behind.

New to the Middle School, the fifth grade was led by Drew Polstra; other outstanding fifth-graders were Parker Baker, James Farish, Alex Goldsmith, Vidyaa Gudivada, Miles Hauser, Olivia McCall, Josephine Oakley, Jack Runge, and Caroline Wilcox.

Robert Moser was the stand-out reader for the sixth grade. He was joined by André Batchelder-Schwab, Courtney Fant, Corinne Foster, Austin Hayes, Olivia Lucas, Stacey Minton, Stephanie Pusker, and Jesse Yu as the top contributors for their grade.

Katy Hallman read the most pages for the eighth grade. Kendall Crawford, Alexis Benedict, Katherine Carmichael, Alex Hamberis, Kaylyn Kipper, Megan Millon, Lindsey Roettger, Jordan Pentaleri added many pages for their last summer of competition before entering the Upper School.

Readers who reached the 1,000-page mark were treated to ice cream, and the top three readers in each grade were invited to a special lunch with visiting author Sara Weeks on September 27. Check out the Middle School library for recommendations from our top readers!
