Marcia Prewitt Spiller
Head of The Children's School, Atlanta Ga.
Marcia
Prewitt Spiller is Head of The Children’s School in Atlanta
a position she has held since 1990. Born and raised in Cleveland,
Ohio, Marcia is a graduate of Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee.
She received her graduate degrees from Ohio State University and
Georgia State University.
Currently,
Marcia serves as a vice-chair of the board of the National Association
of Independent Schools (NAIS) and chair of the Equity and Justice
Committee, on the board of directors of the Southern Association
of Independent Schools (SAIS), on the board of the Elementary School
Heads Association (ESHA), and on the board of Atlanta Area Association
of Independent Schools (AAAIS). She conducts seminars and workshops
on diversity, multi-cultural curriculum and teacher training. She
also works with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
(SACS) and the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS)
to accredit independent schools in the southern region. Marcia is
a current member and past president of the Georgia Independent School
Association.
Marcia
has been recognized as an education ambassador and traveled to China
in the fall of 2000 to study site-based managed schools. She is
a ten year veteran of the /I/D/E/A/ Fellows summer institute for
distinguished educators. Marcia is a 1993 graduate of Leadership
Atlanta and a 1998 graduate of Leadership Midtown. In addition,
Marcia currently serves as a board member on the Board of Trustees
of Hands on Atlanta, Refugee Resettlement and Immigration Services
(RRISA) and the Atlanta Lyric Theatre.
Marcia
is the mother of Justin, a graduate of Brown University and Emory
School of Law, and Ashleigh, a graduate of Hampton University and
American University. Both Justin and Ashleigh are also alumni of
The Children’s School.
