Attendance at each session and a good work ethic are requirements for success in this course.

During this course, students will engage in practice exercises and review to improve their SAT performance. These sessions are equally divided between reviewing verbal and math skills. Students will take two SATs that are scored and analyzed during the first and last sessions. During the second week, a PSAT and an ACT will also be taken and analyzed so that the student will have a full profile of his abilities on these three types of standardized tests. These analyses will pinpoint individual weakness(es) and will enable the student to focus intently on needed areas of improvement.

Instruction will also emphasize improving skills already taught in the classroom environment. The verbal sessions will concentrate on skills relating to grammar and structure, sentence completion, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. Skills necessary for effective essay writing will also be covered. The math sessions will review topics in algebra and geometry covered on the SAT; there will be extensive practice with the format of the test. Practice is also given in gridding and free response answers in math, and emphasis is placed on calculator usage.

In addition, one session led by the CCES College Guidance directors will provide valuable suggestions on how students may best present themselves to colleges and how to choose the colleges that are right for them.
