Upper School music teacher Molly Aiken announced that a total of eight CCES students were accepted into All-State Chorus following their auditions on November 1. They are seniors Katie Atkinson, Elizabeth Beeson, Lake Dailey and Jen Kotrady; junior Jonathan Pierce; and sophomores Cody Cobb, Heather McCall, and Jacqueline Pusker.

"We are the largest group going in Greenville County. All-State generally picks two choirs with about 240 students in each group. We compete with around 2,000 of the state's top vocalists, including those from 4-A schools and worthy opponents such as Charleston School of the Arts. I'm very pleased with this year's results," said Mrs. Aiken.

According to the South Carolina Music Educators website, "The All-State Chorus program was organized to provide an opportunity for superior choral students in South Carolina to sing together and to represent the state in statewide events. Students who participate in All-State have an opportunity to further utilize the skills obtained and developed in their local school programs. The South Carolina All-State Chorus program provides an intensive and demanding vocal experience, which fosters self-discipline and personal growth as well as musicianship."

Students will attend All-State rehearsals at Winthrop College in Rock Hill from March 13 - 15. They are being directed this year by two world-class choral clinicians, Canadian Diane Loomer, winner of Canada's highest civilian honor, "The Order of Canada," and Alan Raines, the internationally renowned professor of graduate music studies at Georgia State University.

The All-State Chorus concert will be performed at Winthrop at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 15. The concert is free and open to the public.
