Students are full of surprises.

Perhaps this is nowhere more evident than in the arts.

That's one reason Graphic Arts teacher Dan Harris, who teaches photography classes in the Upper School, decided to create a website to showcase student photography.

Another reason is his intent to incorporate technology into the Mac-based graphic arts program wherever possible.

The inaugural gallery of student photos showcases work by junior Sarah White, who commented about her photos from Tanzania, where she spent last summer helping to renovate a local school:

"My time spent in Tanzania was life-changing.

"I lived in the small village of Arusha while doing community service during the month of July 2005. I was in a group with about 17 other teenagers and two leaders. We worked together, and by the end of the month we had built a five-room house for teachers, cleaned the classrooms, and re-did the library.

"We went on weekend trips and had speakers almost every night. By the end of the trip we were best friends and left lasting footprints on each other’s lives. My experience made me realize that we are very lucky, and I know now not to take everyday things for granted. "These pictures are of the amazing people I met and who touched my life."
