On Friday, April 24, CCES earned its first Green Step in recognition of the Rain Garden constructed by Senior IB students. CCES works on many environmental projects and hopes to earn additional Green Steps each year.

Alysen Woodruff, City of Greenville Recycling Coordinator and Greenville County Green Steps Coordinator, was in attendance and presented the school with a certificate to commemorate the occasion. The certificate was in a frame that was, appropriately, made of recycled tires.

During the ceremony, students presented their findings from the past year and talked about the process they went through to earn the school’s first Green Step.

Green Step Schools began in 2003 as a means to challenge the youth of South Carolina to take steps towards helping their schools become more environmentally friendly. CCES is currently one of 25 schools sustaining the Green Step Project in the state of South Carolina.
