For the second consecutive year, a CCES senior has been selected as a Presidential Scholar.

This year, following the lead established last year by Will Guzick ’07, now attending Harvard University, Katherine Latham has been named one of the 141 Presidential Scholars selected by a Presidential Commission from a pool of 2,700 applicants.

Only students in the top 1% of their classes are even invited to apply to the Presidential Scholars Program. Thus, the 141 students selected represent the top two-tenths of one percent of the nation's graduating seniors.

According to the Presidential Scholars website, "The 141 students named annually as Presidential Scholars represent excellence in education and the promise of greatness in young people."

In June the Presidential Scholars convene in Washington, DC, for National Recognition Week, a program described as "five days of educational, celebratory and fellowship activities." During that week the Presidential Scholars enjoy many opportunities to attend seminars and workshops; meet government officials, writers, scientists and other noted individuals; and participate in community service.

The Scholars each receive a Presidential Medallion during ceremonies in the nation's capital in June.
