Timeline

Anchored in our past, rooted in tradition, and responsive to our present, we are ready to Build for the Future.

Over six decades ago, the founders of CCES set out to establish a school that could provide the education and experience that Greenville's families deserved. In the early '70s, visionary leaders moved to Cavalier Drive, so the school could better realize its potential by having grades K-12 on one shared campus. Over the next fifty years, those 72 acres allowed the school to unify the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools and to shape what has become the preeminent school in the region. Today, the next generation of school leaders is ready to write the next chapter in the school's history. Standing on the shoulders of those who came before, continuing the traditions that have made us who we are, and looking ahead to making the best even better, we are ready to Build for the Future.

Campus Planning Timeline

January 2020: The CCES Board of Trustees explored and prioritized near- and long-term capital needs before deciding to seek RFPs for a master planning project. Shortly after receiving proposals, the process was put on hold as the school navigated the effects of Covid before reopening the school in the fall of 2020.

March 2021: After successfully weathering the pandemic, the school refocused on the project selecting McMillan Pazdan Smith (MPS) as the architect of record for the Campus Master Planning process.

May 2021: The need for additional acreage was identified in order to preserve flexibility for future capital projects and to ensure that all three divisions remain on a single campus long into the future.

Spring 2022: The Master Plan was completed and approved by the Board, pending execution of a series of successful property acquisitions. The Board also completed a campaign feasibility study and moved forward engaging several key donors to establish a philanthropic foundation.

Fall 2022: While conversations with potential donors continued, the Board of Trustees launched a new Strategic Planning process engaging trustees, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and students in the process.

February 2023: Procurement of two additional parcels and a deeded easement was completed, representing a 30% expansion of CCES’s campus with the addition of twenty-two contiguous acres.

May 2023: After finalizing the addition of the new properties, the Campus Master Plan was shared broadly with the CCES Community.

Fall 2023 - Spring 2024: The reconstituted Buildings and Grounds Committee of the Board worked with MPS on refining options for the project design and on validating the programs for a proposed Technology, Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurship (TIDE) Center and a Sports Performance Center.

April 2024: After seeking an RFP for construction services, the Board of Trustees selected Brasfield & Gorrie as its general contractor; this allowed MPS and Brasfield & Gorrie to work closely with the school’s Owner’s Representative, LCK, to proceed with the Schematic Design (SD) phase of its visionary project.

September 2024: At the first meeting of the year, the Board of Trustees voted to continue with the process through Design Development (DD) and Construction Documents (CD) phases of planning. These steps allowed the school to secure clearer pricing options and to determine the full scope of the project.

October 2024: The Build for the Future Campaign officially launches after having secured over $20.7M.
