A crane lifts a steel beam with an American flag and a small tree attached, over a partially constructed building with a cherry picker in the foreground.

We celebrated a major construction milestone on Tuesday, July 7, in our Build for the Future campus expansion. This “topping out” celebration marks the completion of the building’s framework with the placement of the final structural beam.

This milestone celebrates the hard work of our construction partners and provides another visible symbol of our transformational process. It serves as the embodiment of the CCES commitment to continuous improvement, reflects our dedication to programmatic elevation, and further solidifies our position as leaders in innovative education in Greenville and beyond.

In addition to a redesigned campus loop road, the project scope adds two new facilities to the campus footprint.

TIDE Building
A 22,000-square-foot TIDE (Technology, Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship) building will connect to the existing Upper School through an elevated bridge and will include:

  • Five classrooms, two TIDE learning labs, one outdoor learning space, and multiple breakout rooms;
  • Collaboration rooms where technology, design, and business innovation intersect;
  • Flexible spaces that accommodate small and large group gatherings and promote immersive, hands-on learning experiences;
  • Monumental Learning Stair for class meetings, presentations and guest lectures;
  • Gallery space to display student designs and projects;
  • Central conference room that can serve as a primary meeting hub;
  • Grab & Go Cafe offering additional lunch and snack options.

The building will be a launching spot for our TIDE curriculum and programming, which is actively being developed and refined in partnership with the The Hill Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Furman University.

In support of TIDE programming, the Edward E. Ford Foundation awarded CCES a grant to bring in five or more professional experts-in-residence in the 2027-28 and 2028-29 academic years. Dedicated TIDE spaces and programming will continue to provide a platform for CCES students to engage with innovators across the country, developing skills and mindsets that prepare them for a dynamic future.

Sports Performance Center
In addition to a new Lacrosse and Field Hockey Field, the 59,500-square-foot sports performance facility will include:

  • 18,000-square-foot double court gymnasium;
  • Competition Arena with seating for 1,200;
  • 4,500-square-foot strength and conditioning space;
  • 3,500-square-foot dedicated cheer and wrestling space;
  • 1,500-square-foot athletic training room with dedicated treatment, rehabilitation, and hydrotherapy spaces;
  • 10 new modern locker rooms and bathrooms;
  • Elevated indoor track.

CCES is consistently voted as the top school in South Carolina for high school athletes, and this building will provide an even greater opportunity to support and showcase the hard work and talent of our student athletes. These spaces will also provide greater opportunities for athletic outreach programs and community partnerships.

As this school year comes to a close, and as members of the Class of 2026 have repeatedly noted – including at yesterday’s Young Artists’ Series and Celebration–this has been particularly notable as a year of transformation on all fronts.

Groundbreaking

The ceremony marked a defining moment in the life of the school, a new chapter in the evolution of our Cavalier community, and a milestone for the entire Upstate. We are here because of more than sixty years of leadership, vision, and steadfast belief in what CCES can be. We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, and we move forward together as one community.
