Blair Miller

Physician Assistant? Realtor? Why Not Both!

You may know Blair Miller '00 as one of the most recognized Realtors in Greenville, but she didn’t start her professional life in that field. Surprisingly, Blair began her professional life in a very different career as a Physician Assistant.

Although Blair loved being a PA, she began to grow an interest in becoming a realtor too. She liked the idea of having flexibility in her work schedule and interacting with people on a daily basis while doing something she was passionate about.

The problem was, doing both at the same time was, frankly, impossible.

“I love both,” she said “I couldn’t do both and do my job well, so I had to make a decision to do one or the other. If there were 60 hours in the day, I would definitely be doing both.”

While the worlds of medicine and real estate might seem to be light years apart, Blair says they have more in common than you think.

“A common thread with medicine and real estate is that you work directly with people,” Blair said. “That’s why I love both so much. It goes back to the art of communication and building rapport with your client or patient.”

Blair keeps her medical license current and says Christ Church Episcopal School prepared her for medicine, real estate, or any field she would have chosen to go into.

Learning Discipline and Time Management at CCES

Blair attended CCES in middle school and high school. While at CCES, Blair cheered and played basketball and softball. These opportunities helped her hone time management skills that served her well in college and later as a PA and Realtor.

“You have to learn self-discipline when you’re a student-athlete,” Blair said. “Timing your practice and game schedules with schoolwork definitely helped me with my postgraduate studies, my career, and life in general.”

The academics and extracurricular activities helped shape Blair. And the community she found at CCES helped shape her too. Many of Blair’s closest friends today are ones from her days in middle school and high school.

“Christ Church teaches a sense of community,” Blair said. “It helps nurture and foster those relationships that take you in to the next stage of life.”

After CCES, she went on to graduate from the Honors College at Clemson University in 2004. From there, she earned a degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2006.

Because of CCES, Blair was well-prepared for these next steps.
“When I went to Clemson and also to the Medical University of South Carolina, I knew how to study, and I knew how to prioritize things in my life,” she said.
“Whether it be academics or extracurriculars having access to all the resources we had at Christ Church was a great way to prepare.”

Blair’s Daughters Thrive at CCES

Blair was so pleased with the education she received at Christ Church that she and her husband, Jon, decided CCES is the best place for their two daughters, grades Primer and third, as well.

“Education can be child-specific, and I think any parent wants what’s best for their child,” Blair said. “We’ve been extremely pleased with our experience. The girls have jumped right in and have met so many new friends.”

Blair’s daughters have benefitted from the resources, the teachers, and the administration at CCES. In addition to what they learn in the classroom, Blair’s daughters have enjoyed becoming involved in music. They have both taken piano lessons, and the older daughter has also joined the choir and is able to participate before the school day begins.
“Christ Church does a wonderful job of creating a well-rounded atmosphere for kids to grow and develop,” Blair said. “I think that’s important for kids as they move forward in life.”
