Global Online Academy

"Through GOA, I have been able to develop my love and passion for journalism. It is not your typical online class, I actually have a close relationship with my teacher and I have become friends with people from all around the world. I could not have asked for a better experience through the GOA program."

- Susannah Pazdan '15

In 2014, Christ Church Episcopal School (CCES) entered into a partnership with Global Online Academy (GOA). GOA is a not-for-profit consortium of leading independent schools from around the world. GOA offers CCES students the opportunity to learn alongside peers from around the world. GOA courses further enrich the CCES experience by helping students test their passions in ways typically unavailable on a single campus.

About Global Online Academy

The mission of Global Online Academy is to replicate in online classrooms the intellectually rigorous programs and excellent teaching that are hallmarks of its member schools; to foster new and effective ways, through best practices in online education, for students to learn; and to promote studentsí global awareness and understanding by creating truly diverse, worldwide, online schoolroom communities.

Global Online Academy Member Schools

There are currently 50+ high-performing independent schools in the consortium, representing
three continents, four countries, 21 states, and the District of Columbia. All GOA courses are taught by teachers who are currently teaching at a GOA member school.

About Global Online Academy Courses & Teachers

Students take GOA courses for credit at CCES. GOA course workload and course intensity is equivalent to courses taken on our campus. Unlike many online courses, students are not passive receptors of pre-recorded lectures from their teachers. Instead, students collaborate on challenging and interesting projects with students from around the world. They are also expected to manage their workload and time effectively to support the asynchronous nature of the courses.

CCES Upper School Students are currently taking three year-long courses for the 2016-17 school year, Medical Problem Solving, Abnormal Psychology, and Japanese Language through Culture. Courses during the first semester include, 9/11 in a Global Context, Medical Problem Solving, Water: From Inquiry to Action, Global Health, Graphic Design, Filmmaking, and iOS App Design. Semester II courses include Neuropsychology, Music Theory and Digital Composition, Abnormal Psychology, Gender Studies, Intro into Psychology, 9/11 in a Global Context, Medical Problem Solving, and Fiction Writing.

GOA maintains excellence through rigorous teacher training, building on the best practices and values of leading independent schools - and by ensuring classrooms stay at a small size that fosters strong teacher-student relationships and student-to-student collaboration and interaction. One CCES faculty member is part of the esteemed group of GOA Instructors in 2016-17, offering courses in Introduction to Psychology and Abnormal Psychology.

With Global Online Academy, teachers and students can share their voice on a global stage, improving learning and enabling the pursuit of individual passions.
