Philosophy Statement of the Christ Church Episcopal School Libraries

The Christ Church Episcopal School Library program is designed to support and enhance the curricular objectives of the school community and to encourage the development of students as reflective citizens and lifelong learners. The libraries are centers of learning, study, and research, enabling students to locate, retrieve, and evaluate information. The programs encourage reading for pleasure and foster a lifelong appreciation of literature. The libraries support the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and the Diploma Programme by providing materials in core languages and by reflecting the guiding principles of IBO.

The Christ Church Episcopal School Libraries have adopted the Standards for the 21st-Century Learner prepared by the American Association of School Librarians. (Chicago: ALA, 2007)  These standards serve as the framework for the instructional goals and objectives of the library programs. The librarians, in close collaboration with the teachers, promote the integration for these goals and objectives across the curriculum within the context of classroom assignments. The libraries provide a wide range of both print and non-print sources that support educational excellence and intellectual freedom.
