Charis Burger is the orchestra teacher here at CCES teaching students from the 4th - 12th grade. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Converse College and a Masters Degree in Education from Lesley University.

Charis is a professional musician performing with local orchestras and as the violist for the Starlight String Quartet for the past 24 years. She is currently in her nineteenth year as an orchestra teacher.

Joy Hughes teaches Lower School Music classes, 3rd and 4th grade Choir and the 4th grade Percussion Ensemble. She began her career at CCES teaching Middle School Music and Choir. Her Choirs have performed in festivals, community events, and in regional tours. Her Lower School Percussion Ensemble was featured in the Peggy Denny TV show.

Joy earned a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Furman University and Masters Degree in Music from the University of Maryland. Her Dalcroze certification is from Carnegie Mellon University, and she has training in Orff and Kodaly. She has been a presenter for area music teacher workshops and received the Daniel-Mickel Master Teacher award in 2001. She is a past president of the SC Foothills Chapter of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. This is Joy's 23rd year at CCES.

Trey Skaggs serves as the Director of Bands for the Middle and Upper Schools, teaches 8th Grade World Music, and IB Music. He co-teaches the 5th grade instrumental class with Danielle Knox and Charis Burger.

Trey can be seen playing trumpet and horn in the pit for both the Upper and Middle School Musicals as well as Chapel and other school events. In addition to his teaching responsibilities he coaches girls JV soccer. This is his 8th year at CCES.

Sean Closz joins CCES as the Middle School Vocal Music Teacher. He received his bachelor of Music Education degree from Western Michigan University.  Previously, Sean served as Director of Choral Music at the high school level for five years and four years in the middle school, both in North Carolina. He has experience providing musical direction for musical theatre productions, directing choirs, and teaching various levels of music classes.  Beyond his work in schools, he also was the Director of Music at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and assisted in the direction of the Cumberland Oratorio Singers.
