Christ Church girls meld talent, communication to carry on winning tradition

Upholding tradition can be the toughest opponent in sports. Along with internal pressure, you become the target of every opponent.

The 2018-2019 Christ Church girls basketball team may be on the road to finding the right formula. In a program with two state titles and 100 wins the past four seasons, this year’s squad has barely missed a beat on the way to a 20-4 record. Those losses were all to Class AAAAA and AAAA opponents, while the Cavaliers are 13-0 in Region 1-AA with one game remaining.

“We all communicate really well,” said junior guard Marissa Powe, a third-year starter. “We are all close friends outside of basketball and can tell each other what we need to do on the court without problems.”

“Our bench is a big part, too,” said freshman forward McCall King. “Even if they don’t get in, they really hype us up and cheer for us.”
