7 CCES Football Players Make All-Region

Kim Gendron
The CCES Varsity Football team had a great season under first year Head Coach Quin Hatfield. They finished with a 5-2 regular season record and were a perfect 4-0 at home. They defeated North Central on the road in the first round of the playoffs before falling to Gray Collegiate in Round 2.

CCES is thrilled to announce that seven players -- Ryan Johnsen, Beattie Ashmore, Grayson Klue, Locke Swent, Chandler McMaster, Davis Williams, and Max Morgan - have been named to the All-Region team this year. Quarterback Ryan Johnsen ‘21 is the Region Offensive Player of the Year. He completed 144 passes in 245 attempts for 1,787 yards and 23 touchdown passes. Wide Receiver Beattie Ashmore ‘21 finished the season with 32 catches for 454 yards and 5 TDs. Grayson Klue ‘22 saw action almost everywhere as a running back, kick returner, and cornerback. He finished with over 600 yards rushing and 200 yards receiving for a total of 8 TDs as well as 2 interceptions. Linebacker Locke Swent ‘21 led the team in tackles with 65 solo, 7 for loss, 2 blocked kicks, and 3 caused fumbles. Defensive Lineman Chandler McMaster ‘22 finished with 64 solo tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, and 2 caused fumbles. Defensive Lineman Davis Williams ‘21 had 56 solo tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 1 blocked kick, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 caused fumble. Kicker/Punter Max Morgan ‘21 finished with a 43-yard punting average, had 34 of 41 kickoffs result in touchbacks, and was 29 of 32 on extra point kicks.

Coach Hatfield acknowledges that it’s great to see “the work these guys put in during the off-season pay off.” He says, “When you have a QB that is the Region Offensive Player of the Year, then you also have to give a shout out to the Offensive Line and the entire Receiving Corp.” Hatfield concludes by sharing that he’s “proud of these guys and the entire team for all their hard work.” Congratulations to the team on a successful season and to these seven for being named All-Region! Go Cavs!
