The Gouch Family

Being part of a homeschool co-op meant that the Gouches had enjoyed years of tight-knit friendships, community, and support from people who already knew their children’s strengths, weaknesses, and personalities. As their four school-age children matured, though, their needs began to outgrow Katherine’s energy to homeschool them and the co-op’s extracurricular support.

It was time for a change.

Enrolling at Christ Church

At the time, it wasn’t what we wanted to do,” says Katherine Gouch, “but it was just very clear that it was what [our family] needed to do last year.”

The family started by enrolling just one child, their then-3rd grader, Charlie, who was outpacing the curriculum and needed more social interaction during the day. Because they had had such a good experience with Charlie’s time at CCES, two more of their children followed him there the next year.

Meeting Each Child’s Needs

But, just like any other family, no two kids in the Gouch family are the same. While one needed more of a challenge, another needed additional support. Now, thanks to all of the programs available at CCES, including the Achievement Center, in-house tutoring, and extracurriculars like music, art, language, health, discovery, library, and technology, all of the Gouch children have programs on their level that meet their individual needs.
It may be that a kid needs to be more academically challenged or that a child needs more academic help. There may be the typical social issues that young ones deal with or even stuff in the child’s home life (like when one of my children's peers lost a parent),” says Katherine, “you feel like other people are coming alongside you to help your child succeed at them being their best selves. If the kids have a strength or weakness, it’s nice to meet those needs early while they’re young. The Lower School really is the best part of the school!
Finding one school that can meet all of your family’s needs is rare, but the Gouches have found that CCES can match each of their children’s strengths and weaknesses to make them a better version of themselves.
