Covid-19 Closing Criteria

Dr. Leonard Kupersmith
March 9, 2020

Dear CCES families:

The faculty and staff completed a stimulating day preparing to teach in a remote learning environment with a digital platform. We will be ready to continue to educate your children if we need to close temporarily. The portals of learning will be open. I urge you to contact me, Angela Allen, or a division head if you need internet access or laptops in order to access online instruction.

We are diligently following CDC and WHO advisories and guidelines. We are disciplined in maintaining high sanitary standards within all buildings. We are exploiting the considerable professional expertise in the school community to stay as current as possible with this volatile epidemic.

We regard preserving the health and well being of the community our paramount concern. I share with you the thresholds for closing:

  1. A student or employee tests positive for COVID-19:
    • School is closed until further notice.
  1. A parent, guardian, or household member tests positive for COVID-19:
    • Testing is mandated for student(s) of that parent, guardian, or household member.
    • If negative, the student may return after a 14 day quarantine with a physician's clearance.
    • If the student tests positive, we go into the mode cited above: school is closed until further notice.
  1. A parent, guardian, household member, employee, or student has close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19:
    • Student or employee is quarantined for at least 14 days.
    • The person in question is tested.
      • If the person is a guardian, parent, or household member and tests positive, then the student or employee is tested.
      • If the student or employee tests positive, school is closed until further notice. If negative, a student or employee may return after 14 days with a physician's clearance.
If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and/or develop a fever and symptoms of respiratory illness, such as cough or difficulty breathing, do not come onto school grounds and see your healthcare provider immediately. If you have traveled and suspect that you may have been exposed, I urge you to consider self-quarantine. Our collective investment in the health of the school benefits us all. Protecting the school community from a threat of transmission through self-quarantine speaks to one’s self interest.

You will be receiving regular correspondence from us. We have no inhibitions about over communicating.

Yours very truly,

Leonard Kupersmith
