Revised August Calendar Update

Dr. Angela Allen
Dear CCES families,

We are eagerly anticipating the reopening of school in August and look forward to bringing our Cavalier community together in a manner that preserves the health and safety of our faculty, staff, and students. For many of our Cavaliers, it has been months since stepping foot on campus, and we are acutely aware that it will be new and different for us all. With this in mind, we are taking a thoughtful approach to reorienting our community. As we return, we will all need time and practice to feel comfortable with health and safety procedures - drop off and pick up protocols, new schedules, and simply figuring out how to be with one another. To help us live out our health and safety procedures with care and attention, we are making changes to our calendar to allow faculty, staff, students, and families the opportunity to ease into the new year. Specifically, we will be staggering and phasing in specific grade levels in each division from Friday, August 21 - Friday, August 28 to provide a more personalized experience while allowing everyone to adapt to the school environment. Below you will find the revised calendar for reunification and reorientation. Directors will communicate division-specific information and details to help families prepare.

In an effort to remain proactive and nimble, we are also building in additional professional development opportunities throughout the year to allow faculty the time and space to continue to reflect and remain intentional in their planning for teaching and learning across all environments. While we currently have professional learning days built into the calendar, it is important to note that faculty will be supporting students in their physical classrooms and online as part of the concurrent learning process and will require additional time to serve all students. Below you will find changes to the calendar for the first semester to account for faculty professional learning. While each division will send out consistent reminders about these changes, we ask that you please mark your calendars accordingly. We will continue to monitor and plan for similar changes in the calendar for the second semester and will communicate those shortly.

Additional Calendar Changes:
Friday, September 4: Early Release, All Divisions - Times TBA
Monday, November 30: Late Arrival, All Divisions - Times TBA

Throughout August, you will receive the customary communications from each division, in addition to all school updates, to keep you informed about the health and safety procedures that will be in place and to help you and your children envision what to expect as we start the school year. This type of communication will be ongoing as we learn and grow from our experiences, and we wanted to send out this particular information now so that families may plan around the specific reorientation dates.

This will be the year that we must fully embrace our mission to think deeply, act responsibly, live vigorously, believe faithfully, lead resolutely, and create imaginatively. We miss you and cannot wait for the start of the school year and the opportunity to be together.

Go Cavs!
