Covid-19 Mitigation Policy Update

Dear Members of the CCES Community,

Despite my recent struggles with Greenville area pollen counts and related allergens (The pain is real!), I am pleased that I can write this particular COVID-related note as we enter the final month of the 2020-2021 school year, a year that has seen us pull together to remain on campus and in person continuously since August.
Over the past few weeks, we have seen a marked drop in incidence rates (both cases and exposures) both on campus and in the larger Greenville community. In fact, it is not too much to say that the on-campus cases have dwindled to a level which we can barely measure.

Additionally, many adults in our community have been able to receive the vaccine, and the CDC has recently adjusted its recommendations around mitigations.

Given all of the above, in consultation with our trusty CCES Medical Advisory Panel, and based on the latest guidance, we are prepared to shift our policies regarding masks on campus.

Our new language is as follows: Masks continue to be required when indoors; however, beginning Monday, May 3rd, when outdoors where distance can be maintained, masks are optional.  Obviously, there can /will be exceptions in cases where students, faculty, and families are required to be in close proximity or in larger groups; however, we are pleased that our collective efforts have allowed us to reach a point where we are comfortable adjusting our policies.

My guess is that this is welcome news to most in our community, but I will reiterate my standard call for everyone to remain vigilant as we navigate the closing weeks of a school year unlike any other.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

David Padilla
