Dear Members of the CCES Community,
I will begin by thanking you.
So many of you have reached out to express your appreciation for our steady, measured approach to managing the pandemic, and I, in turn, cannot express enough my appreciation for how the community has come together. The proof—as they say—is in the pudding; it is hard to argue with the sustained success of remaining in person and on campus throughout the past eighteen months.
As we have since the beginning of the pandemic, we have been closely monitoring COVID levels both in the broader community and in our CCES community. Our goal has been to take a conservative approach with mitigations to maintain the health and wellbeing of both students and adults. That said, we have also been steadfast in expressing our desire to return to normalcy when we feel we can do so safely.
We have once again reached a point where we are cautiously optimistic about conditions at school. While we are not completely back to the low levels we enjoyed before the holidays, our rapidly decreasing case count offers enough hope to move ahead with a plan to adjust mitigations.
We will use next week to be doubly sure we know where things stand. If the Covid case counts continue to drop, we will shift to recommending but not requiring masks for all students in all divisions effective Monday, February 14th.We will continue to gather in reduced numbers in the Chapel, Rooke Theater, and McCall, and there will be occasions when we may elect to require masking for larger gatherings.
We urge everyone to be as careful as possible in monitoring any signs or symptoms of illness which may arise. If your student or someone in the household is feeling ill, please keep them home and contact our nurses at
health@cces.org. For up-to-date guidance on how to decide your path, you can review the flow chart
here. We also want to continue to encourage anyone eligible for the vaccination or a booster shot to consider doing so.
Please bear in mind that, for a variety of reasons, we will have students and faculty who choose to continue wearing a face covering. One of the aspects that I value so much at CCES is the support and respect we have for each other, so please treat those choosing to wear a face covering respectfully.
Finally, I want to again acknowledge the reality that we may reach a point where we might need to return more broadly to masking and/or other mitigations for some period of time. While this is not our hope, it could be our reality.
Again, thanks for your patience, understanding, and support; the sense of community at CCES continues to impress.
Have a wonderful weekend,
