Special Edition Spotlight: Take Two
Beginning this fall, twins Lillie and Zachary Idris must learn to not only cut loose from their parents, but to separate from each other as they head off to separate schools for the first time since their Primer year. They will go in different directions literally, as Lillie heads off to Florida State University in Tallahassee and Zachary to Davidson College in North Carolina.
Lillie will pursue a career in the medical field following in the footsteps of her mom (a nurse) and dad (a doctor). She intends to major in Nursing and eventually become a Nurse Practitioner, fitting for this young woman who declares she’s always had a passion for helping people. Providing care and offering words of encouragement are second nature to Lillie, who’s been described as being an inherently good friend, sister, student, and person. She’s even indicated a desire to someday work in underdeveloped countries with those who have limited access to medical services and resources to pay for medical care. She applied and was accepted into the University of Florida, University of Central Florida, Rollins College, Clemson University, College of Charleston, Sewanee University, and Wofford College, but says she had her heart set on FSU from the second she set foot on the gorgeous campus.

Just as two roads diverge in a wood, Zachary will travel a slightly different one fulfilling his dream to play Division I football at one of the best academic schools in the country. Showing just how committed he was to Davidson, Zachary applied early decision, a promise to attend if accepted. Zachary will major in Political Science pursuing his passion for politics and all things government. He hopes to continue his education in Law School and one day achieve his dream of working in politics in Washington D.C.
Between both of them, they’ve clocked up a nice portfolio during their thirteen years at CCES and have been a positive presence— not only in the classroom, but also on the athletic fields, in the performing arts center, and to their peers, teachers, and coaches— throughout the process. Lillie has participated in cheerleading, field hockey, soccer, and track. She has excelled in Mock Trial and Youth in Government, earning Outstanding Witness at the Youth in Government Conference in 2015, all while maintaining Honor Roll status consistently. “Extremely mature and repeatedly focused on doing the right things, Lillie is a delightful young lady whom I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know over the past year,” says her College Counselor Lindsey Waters. “Her peers admire her kindness, compassion, and positive attitude. I admire her diligence, politeness, and open mind.”Zachary has played Varsity Football and Varsity Lacrosse (both teams he captained), is a member of the Acafellas (a CCES all male-singing group), participates in the First Responders Appreciation Club, held an ensemble role in Upper School Musical Mame, and lead roles in musicals Grease (Kenicke) and Kiss Me Kate (Bill Calhoun/Lucentio). He earned Outstanding Junior in the Performing Arts in 2016. Not to be outdone by his accomplishments in the Drama department, the High School Sports Report named Zach to the All Rookie Team for football in 2014 and the All State Team in 2015 and 2016. He was Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2014, and All Region in 2015 and 2016. In addition (you guessed it) he’s made the Honor Roll all four years of high school. “Hardworking, focused, and creative, I’m consistently impressed with Zachary’s performance as a powerful football and lacrosse player, and a natural actor and vocalist,” said Mrs. Waters. “However, I’m even more impressed by his willingness to commit to these very different pursuits, and his open-minded approach to challenging himself.”
For some twins there is the conundrum of wanting to be seen as different from one another and overcoming comparisons. For Lillie and Zachary there is no friction just friendship, support, encouragement, and understanding sealed by a seemingly impenetrable bond. After 18 years of togetherness they will soon arrive on their respective campuses and become one part of a whole new world of opportunity.

What is your favorite CCES memory?
Lillie: I will always cherish the memories and experiences that I gained from going on two mission trips to South Africa; gathering at Apostle Battery Camp in Cape Town, South Africa and participating in different areas of ministry throughout South Africa including ministry in the IY Township, homeless ministry, and sports ministry along with the Jabulani Africa Ministries team. I hope to continue my service in Africa with the JAM team in the future.
Zachary: The 8th grade Disney trip.
What is one of the things you would put on your bucket list?
Lillie: I’d love to live in South Africa someday.
Zachary: Attend a Packers game at Lambeau Field.
If you could share and afternoon with anyone, who would it be?
Lillie: Ivanka Trump because she is one of my role models. She is extremely intelligent, hard-working, and family oriented. Ivanka is a very powerful, empowering woman who exudes confidence and I believe that is very rare for someone who has spent their entire life in the public eye with a silver spoon.
Zachary: I would love to get a chance to just sit down and talk to Aaron Rodgers and ask him what has been his driving force and how does he stay motivated. After facing much adversity, having to attend a junior college to play football at first as no one thought he was good enough, to having to be a backup for the Packers for so many years, I really just wonder how he didn’t give up and how he kept his cool through all that to become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
Lillie, what are you most proud of about Zachary?
Zach is my role model! He has a strong work ethic and determination and I have no doubt he can do almost anything he sets his mind to. I love being a twin and I wouldn’t want it any other want.
Zachary, what are you most proud of about Lillie?
I am so proud of how she is very self-motivated and how independent she has become. She is always doing things for herself whether it is going out and getting a part-time job or striving to reach her academic goals, among many other things.
