Spotlight On: Maggie Brooker, CCES Class of 2018

by Jamie Bryant, Director of Marketing & PR
Maggie Brooker is the kind of person that will reshape your approach to life.  Uninhibited when it comes to trying new things, she is described by her College Counselor, Mr. Bartley Sides, as incredibly kind hearted and mature.  “Maggie is not afraid to take risks or step outside of her comfort zone,” he says.  “She’s adaptable, conscientious, and truly loves to learn.”

Having applied to the University of South Carolina, University of Denver, Boston University, University of Colorado at Boulder, Wake Forest, Northeastern, and College of Charleston, it was the urban setting of Boston University, in the heart of the city, that swept her off her feet.  Not surprising, as Boston will surely feed Maggie’s insatiable appetite for trying new things!  She says she loves the diversity of Boston, the abundance of programming the University offers, as well as its generous study abroad opportunities.  She leans towards a major in Psychology but is currently enrolled as undecided.

Maggie has been at CCES since her Primer year and describes her experience at CCES as “fun, educational, and full of opportunities”.  Her vigilance in both academic and extracurricular pursuits is enviable. She has participated in many sports, including cheerleading, tennis, dance team, track and cross country.  Maggie started surfing seven years ago and has attended a summer surf camp during five of those years. She also loves snowboarding, painting, is a certified scuba diver, has played the drums for 13 years, and has even taught herself to play the ukulele— all of this while continuously making the honor or high honor roll while enrolled in multiple Honors and Advanced Placement courses.  She has embraced school activities throughout the years with a passion, fondly recalling events such as Big Jump Day, Homecoming, Homegoing, school-wide service days, and many more.

Maggie credits her time at CCES as having “pushed me outside of my comfort zone and forced me to go beyond my limits in what I needed to do in order to succeed.”  We could not be more proud of Maggie, or more fortunate to have had her among our student body.

JUST FOR FUN!

If you could relive one CCES event or experience, what would it be?  The 8th grade trip to Disney!  I loved this trip because it brought me a lot closer to some of my now best friends.  It was so fun, relaxed, and a great experience to have with my classmates.
What is one of the things you would put on your bucket list?  Skydiving with my best friends!
If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?  My drum teacher, Mr. Paul Riddle!  He has had so much experience with kids and knows just what to say to put you in a good mood.
Do you prefer a mountain or ocean vacation?  Definitely ocean.
Tell us something people probably don’t know about you.  I play the drums, and I recently started running hurdles for our track team!
