Spotlight On: Mia Wolfsdoerfer, CCES Class of 2018
A native of Germany, Mia Wolfsdoerfer joined the CCES family in her sophomore year. She was born in Friedrichshafen, Germany, an industrial yet picturesque city located on the shores of Lake Constance. Friedrichshafen was home to Mia for 10 years. She then moved to Gainesville, Georgia for three years, followed by a short stint back in Germany’s Tettnang, before arriving in Greenville, SC and enrolling at CCES.
Change always creates opportunities. Some find those opportunities hard to grasp as they are often either clinging to the past or fretting about the future. Not Mia. Her adaptability is enviable. She is extremely curious and accepting of all of the cultures and people she has encountered saying “all of the cities in which I’ve lived have been home.” This fall, ‘home’ will be Zeppelin University, a small and highly selective private research university located in Friedrichshafen. Mia was so steadfast in her decision she did not apply to any other schools. “I choose Zeppelin University not only because it is located where I grew up but also because it offered the exact Bachelor program I wanted to pursue, PAIR (Politics, Administration and International Relations),” Mia said. Some other benefits to which she was drawn include a modern teaching style, smaller class sizes, and a beautiful campus. To get a sense of the university and its students, she attended a Schoolkids In University Program last summer and was able to not only explore the campus, but to meet students and professors as well.
Ever the ambitious and hard-working student, Mia has pursued the IB Diploma track while at CCES, a program that she describes as “wholesome”— it supports your strengths while improving your weaknesses. “I am not going to lie,” she says, “There are times of frustration but also times of great joy. This year’s IB group was amazing and we help each other out wherever we can. IB exams are about to start and with the help of our awesome teachers we will get through these next few weeks.”
Mia’s desire to get involved speaks volumes about her ambition, enthusiasm, and determination. She has been in several clubs including Spanish Club and Youth In Government. As part of her IB Diploma Program Creativity, Activity, Service, (CAS) Project, she, along with Shelby Springer ’18 and Dani Boyett ‘18, organized an Easter basket drive for Shriner’s Hospital. In addition, she has been tutoring Lower School students weekly for the past two years, an experience that has been a favorite of hers. Mia has been on Honor Roll every semester of her Upper School career at CCES and had the distinction of being inducted into the Spanish Honors Society in 2016.
Mia is truly a global citizen, poised to one-day address the complex social, economic, and environmental issues we face. Her College Counselor, Linda Schulz cites, “Mia is a well-respected member of our community. She is an introspective, intelligent, hard-working, and goal oriented student who is fully prepared to meet the challenges that await her in college and beyond.”

What do you like about America? I like the shopping malls and being able to drive at 16.
What would be your dream job? My dream job would be to be named the Ambassador of Germany to the United States or Spain.
I understand you love watching current events programming, Fox News, CNN, etc. What is your favorite show and who is your favorite anchor? My favorite American news show is AC 360 with Anderson Cooper on CNN and when it comes to German talk shows Markus Lanz and Maybrit Illner are my favorite shows/hosts.
How would you like to help our world? By promoting understanding, not just tolerance, to encourage world peace. Without understanding, there can be no proper discussion, no matter what the topic.
