CCES Senior Chapel and Clap-Out

by Jamie Bryant, Director of Marketing & PR
In a time-honored tradition, CCES celebrated the Class of 2018 today during their senior chapel service followed by the customary Senior Clap-Out— an emotional parade in which the seniors process through campus while their fellow students from Primer through 11th grade not only “clap” them out, but yell, hoot, holler, hug, and cheer!

Bagpipes led the seniors into their last service as CCES students at The Chapel of the Good Shepard, where they stood surrounded by their Upper School peers, parents, family members, and faculty. Each member of the Class of 2017 received a Bible from Chaplains Valerie Riddle and Betsy Burton containing a special inscription to remember their time at CCES.

Perhaps the most touching and heartfelt performance was when CCES Primers gathered at the front of the Chapel to perform “I Am a Promise”. The voices of these young children produced both smiles and tears from the audience, as many seniors (32 to be precise) remembered their own performance of the song 13 years earlier.

As the class filed out of the Chapel of the Good Shepherd, they set out across the Cavalier Campus led by Junior acolytes, chapel, and student body leaders Luke Anderson, Cam Moser, Hailey Sanders, Sallie McKissick, Bates Hinsdale, Kailee Morgan, Gracie Patat, and Alexander Yerkes, receiving enthusiastic applause from students, faculty, and staff from all three divisions.  Joyful hugs and high-fives from students and faculty expressed the love of the community for its outgoing class.
