2018 MS & US Grandparents Day

by Jamie Bryant, Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications
On Friday, October 12, 2018, CCES Middle and Upper School students gathered to honor all Grandparents at our Annual Grandparents Day celebration. Grandparents Day at CCES is a day dedicated to very special people, and a day that our students embrace and cherish.

Grandparents arrive at CCES from near and far, reuniting with their grandchildren in the courtyard in front of the Chapel of the Good Shepherd, before heading into chapel. This year’s guest speaker was Mrs. Harriet Goldsmith, mother of two alumni, Andy and Elliott, and grandmother of Mason, Ladds, Whit, and Wright, classes of 2021, 202, 2024, and 2026 respectively. Headmaster Dr. Leonard Kupersmith said of Harriet, “If there was ever a grandparent that stands out as a community builder, it is our speaker this morning.”

Harriet ended her encouraging remarks by saying, “I think Christ Church Episcopal School is the complete package! Absolutely fantastic teachers and wonderful course offerings, terrific facilities, unbelievable fine arts, great athletic facilities and it is faith based— in the Episcopal tradition—where every student is valued!”

Sallie McKissick, CCES Class of 2019 and 13-year veteran (having attended CCES since Primer) spoke at the Upper School chapel service saying, “Grandparents Day represents so much more than just a day to celebrate our lovely ‘second parents’. It represents the unity of the wisest generation who have lived and thrived and know mostof lifes answers, with our future leaders who are just beginning to ask the questions.”

During Middle School chapel, Catalina Ossmann, CCES Class of 2023, spoke to a full congregation. Acknowledging her grandmothers, both present, she said, “You have taught me to be a leader, not a follower, to serve others and to believe in myself. Thank you for all you have done for me.”

These special chapel services were followed by a catered brunch in McCall Field House. Once again, special thanks to everyone who came out and made our Middle and Upper School Grandparents Day extra special this year!
