Athletes Peyton Gillespie and Adelaide Vergnolle Sign Letters of Intent for Collegiate Athletics

Christ Church Episcopal School has two athletes whose success we celebrated today, November 14th, during a signing ceremony with school officials, family, and friends.
 
The students who signed are as follows:
Peyton Gillespie - Golf at Queens University, Charlotte, NC
Adelaide Vergnolle - Cross Country and Track at Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, California
 
Athletic Director Molly Miller thanked coaches and administration, families, and friends for their support of the athletes and had the following commentary on each individual:
 
“Peyton Gillespie is described by her teachers as quiet, diligent, hardworking, and caring. Several teachers noted, that while she has had to miss some class time for tournaments, they’ve been especially impressed by her proactive approach in maintaining school work and getting caught up when needed. Peyton has made sacrifices to pursue her golfing dreams— her work ethic in improving her game is impressive. Peyton has been a leader in raising the level of play with our Girls program and setting a new standard within our Golf program. Coach Rooke notes that her contributions to the boys’ teams have been an integral part of the team’s success the past few years and she truly believes Peyton’s best golf is yet to come.
 
“Adelaide Vergnolle is described by her teachers as dedicated, reliable, optimistic, and one who is always willing to help others— someone who is a fierce competitor and tenacious. Mrs. Ferguson commented that Adelaide’s energy is both contagious and exhausting, and that Adelaide’s passion for history keeps her on her toes! Coach Elliott, who regrets not being able to attend because of his Middle School Disney trip responsibility, states that Adelaide is one of the truest competitors he’s ever coached. She doesn't complain, doesn't shy away from fatigue and pain, and will not settle for giving anything less than her best. She has left her mark on the CCES Girls XC team, playing a vital role as team captain for the past 2 years in garnering student interest and growing the team from 12 members to this year at 34 members. He goes on to say that Adelaide has left her mark on him as her coach— she's not only a special athlete, but a special human being, gifted beyond measure musically, academically, and athletically with a personality and self-confidence he will not soon forget. Coach Elliott closes by saying that Santa Clara is gaining not just an excellent runner, but a culture-shaper, a tone-setter, and a person whose hunger for success will be emulated.
 
Congratulation to both of these talented athletes. They may go one to be Royals and Broncos, but they will always be Cavaliers to us!
