Amy Kate Williams Signs to Play Collegiate Field Hockey at Wellesley College

by Kim Gendron, Athletics Communications Coordinator

Christ Church Episcopal School celebrated the successes of one of our senior athletes today, February 6th, during a signing ceremony. Family, friends and school officials gathered to watch Amy Kate Williams sign her letter of intent to play Field Hockey at Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.

Athletic Director Molly Miller thanked family, coaches, administration, teachers and friends for their support both on the field and in the classroom as they have shaped Amy Kate into the student, athlete and person she is today. Molly shared quotes from a few of Amy Kate’s teachers who had the following thoughts:

“Amy Kate brings such a positive attitude to everything she does. She is truly a pleasure to have in class and makes the classroom environment one of joy and happiness.”

“Amy Kate exhibits the same tenacity and resilience when faced with challenging obstacles in the classroom as she does on the field. She doesn’t settle for work that is mediocre but strives for deep understanding and best efforts.”

“Amy Kate is a model student in every sense of the word. She consistently works hard and contributes daily to class discussions. She is a curious learner who improves her knowledge base by not only participating in class but also by independently researching topics outside of class.”

Molly noted all of Amy Kate’s accomplishments, spanning over her six years in CCES’s Field Hockey program as well as her years spent playing club. She was a member of the Christ Church Varsity team for five years and she has a State Championship for each of those five seasons.

Starting in 2014, Amy Kate was a member of the Charlotte Ambush Select team, a club that was named the best in the country and won a Gold medal at the 2018 National Field Hockey Festival.

Lastly, Molly shared the words of Coach Sara Hellman who had the following praise for Amy Kate: “AK is a first class athlete. You never have to tell her to go her hardest; it is just in her blood to do her best. She understands that preparation and repetitious practice is the only way to get better at our sport. You can find her on off days at Linda Reeves field “hitting around” to perfect what is already a consistent and great shot. She was selected to play for one of the most demanding travel teams in the country: Charlotte Ambush. She shined for them as she shines for us and I know that she will shine at Wellesley! Her presence on and off the field will be greatly missed!”

Congratulations to Amy Kate on all of her accomplishments at CCES and all those to come at Wellesley! While she will venture up north in the fall and play field hockey for a different team, Amy Kate will always be a Cavalier to us! Go Cavs!
