Head of School Search | March Update

Cary Weekes
March 27, 2019

Dear CCES Community,

I trust each of you is well, still replenished from Spring Break, and ready to celebrate the Easter season.  The search is moving full steam ahead and the Search Committee feels we could not be better positioned for success at this stage of the process.

Overall, our search has been well-received by potential candidates and reinforced our belief that the accomplishments of CCES are highly regarded and the School has a reputation among the very highest in the country.  Using materials from the January meetings and surveys, our consultants have worked diligently to present exciting candidates to the Search Committee for our consideration. With the interests of the School top of mind, the Search Committee is focusing on a select group of broadly accomplished educational leaders.  Our Spencer Stuart consultant, Chuck Jordan, recently noted, “Top to bottom, this is an extraordinarily talented group, and while we expected enthusiasm from potential candidates about the opportunity, we are thrilled with the actual results. Positive momentum, Episcopal identity, and Greenville location have often been cited by candidates as reasons for their enthusiasm.”  The response has been fantastic, and the Search Committee could not feel more encouraged by our candidate pool.

While confidentiality of the candidates' identities is of utmost importance, I can share that the selected pool represents broad diversity, including race and gender.  In interviews, we will learn more about these candidates while sharing more about our expectations, opportunities, and culture. The Faculty & Staff Advisory Committee will also meet with candidates in the pool where they will learn more about the candidates, share more about campus life at school, and partake in conversations with candidates on subjects that are fundamental to our faculty and staff.  With a strong pool already identified, we’re on track for a recommendation to the Board following additional interviews and engagement in the early summer.

Please reach out to me at any time if I can be of assistance and please remember you have an open, confidential channel to the search consultants via CCESHOS@spencerstuart.com or directly to the committee at headsearch@cces.org.

Yours very truly,

Cary H. Weekes
