47 Students Inducted Into Foreign Language Honor Societies

by Jamie Bryant, Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications

CCES proudly inducted 47 new members into one of five Foreign Language Honor Societies (Chinese, French, German, Latin and Spanish) on April 23rd. Students qualify for induction by maintaining a consistently high level of academic achievement in their chosen language courses. Not only have these students maintained high academic standing, but they have also shown a deep interest in these languages, and appreciate the importance of learning another language.

The ceremony included opening remarks by Mr. Wes Clarke, Upper School Assistant Director followed by Diana Geary ’19 and Amy Kate Williams ’19, who shared experiences during the CCES trip to Spain in the summer of 2016, including tasting new foods, taking classes completely in Spanish at their school, living with host families, and navigating public transportation in their city.

The following students were then presented by their respective teacher for induction;

National Latin Honor Society: Mia Bell, Campbell Hammond, Blakely Kehl, Mac Mertens, Brooks O’Hanlan, Abigail Pickens, Elena Maria Vitale, Benn Waigand, Jamie Walker

Candidates recited the oaths from each society and signed their respective register. Elena Maria Vitale ’19 gave an international perspective on the value of learning many languages in her closing remarks. She has studied five languages and plans to continue studying them in college along with philosophy and international business.

Congratulations to all of the newest members on their achievement!
