MIDDLE SCHOOL:

Mr. Hamilton Parks, Assistant Director
For the past 14 years, Hamilton has served Greenville County Schools as a teacher, math coach, instructional coach, and administrator. At the start of his educational career he taught 4th and 5th grades at East North Street Academy and Oakview Elementary.  In 2011, he accepted his first administrative role as coach and member of the leadership team at East North Street Academy. He served in this capacity for two years before moving to A.J. Whittenberg School of Engineering to assume the role of school wide instructional coach.  In this role, Mr. Parks developed the STEAM curriculum, supported teachers in learning best practices, and analyzed data to effectively maximize student achievement.  In his previous role at Mauldin Elementary, Mr. Parks was an Administrative Assistant, a role in Greenville County Schools similar to an Assistant Director in the independent school sector.  In this capacity, Hamilton oversaw school-wide positive culture and behavioral expectations, conducted teacher observations, organized professional development opportunities for staff, created and implemented schedules, and worked directly with students, teachers, and parents to set academic and behavioral goals.

Ms. Spencer Jones, History and Religion
Ms. Jones will teach Ancient & Medieval History and 1 section of World Spirituality & Ethics, having most recently taught 10th grade World History and 11th grade AP Seminar at Cristo Rey Boston High School, which exclusively serves families of limited economic resources.  She also served as an instructional coach, and emphasizes classroom empathy, individualized feedback, and students making meaning of historical primary source documents through connection with their own lives, and with modern issues. Ms. Jones earned a Bachelor of Arts with High Honors in Sociology and Educational Studies from Swarthmore College, and an MAT in Secondary Social Studies from Brown University. She also sang alto in the choir at Trinity Episcopal Church in Boston, and with that group just completed a late summer singing tour of England.  Originally from Columbia, SC, Ms. Jones is excited to return home, where her father is an English teacher at the Governor’s School, and her stepmother is an alumna of CCES.

Mrs. Sina Shuey, Mathematics (part-time)
Mrs. Shuey will teach two sections of Algebra I, and also tutor through the Achievement Center. She previously completed a long-term assignment in our Middle School in 2016, and has 11 total years of teaching experience, including multiple years of teaching AP Calculus among other math courses in Kentucky.  More recently in Greenville, she has taught at Mitchell Road Christian Academy, and last year at Greenville Early College, a project-based learning school housed at the University Center on Pleasantburg Dr. Mrs. Shuey was conferred a B.S. in Mathematics Teaching from Clemson University. Mrs. Kathryn Sielbeck, Librarian, Media Specialist, and Journalism Instructor
For the past 5 years, Mrs. Sielbeck has taught English at Brentwood HS, her alma mater outside of Nashville, TN. While there, she sponsored the National English Honor Society, starting a mentoring program whereby older, accomplished students provided younger students with writing support.  In addition, last year, 22 seniors at Brentwood volunteered as student helpers in her office. Two influential people in her life are librarians: her sister and her closest teaching colleague. She has already been hard at work this summer giving the library a fresh look, envisioning it as the hub of the Upper School, an inviting space for students to explore personal pursuits and pleasurable reading material, collaborate with one another to learn, and complete school work in relative quiet. Mrs. Sielbeck earned a B.A. in English with a minor in Art History from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, and an M.Ed. in Secondary English from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University.  She has relocated to Greenville this summer with her husband, Bate, a managing partner at Beech Creek Capital, a holding company that invests in service businesses across the Southeast.

Dr. Josh Stone, English
For the past 13 years, Dr. Stone has taught English at Ransom Everglades School outside Miami, FL.  At Ransom Everglades, he also served 7 years as 11th grade Academic Dean; 6 years as Diversity Coordinator and one year as Director of Diversity Initiatives; 3 years as Dean of Students; and this past year as English Department Chair.  Yet Dr. Stone’s favorite role is sitting in a circle with students, discussing literature and its connections to their lives. He developed multiple English electives while at Ransom Everglades, including one which connected students as pen pals with inmates enrolled in writing courses he started in South Florida correctional facilities, the subject of his 2017 TED talk.  At CCES, he will apply that experience to college prep English IV, launching seniors toward college and their emerging adult identities, and also teach 2 sections of English I for 9th graders.  Dr. Stone also just completed his 33rd summer, the past 10 as Waterfront Director, at Camp Kinder Ring in Hopewell Junction, NY. He was conferred a BA with High Honors in English Literature from Emory University, and both an MA and PhD in English Literature from the University of Miami.  His wife Alli will teach 5th grade history at CCES, and their sons Eli and Nate will be in 3rd and 5th grades, respectively.

Mr. Dan Wilkie, Mathematics
Mr. Wilkie has taught a range of math courses, including all 3 levels of IB Math and both AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics, for the past 11 years at Woodmont High School in Greenville County.  He earned National Board Certification in 2010, and served as Woodmont’s IB Diploma Coordinator for the past 3 years. He currently serves as Treasurer of SCIBS (South Carolina IB Schools) and is a feature presenter on upcoming changes to the IB Math curriculum.  However, Mr. Wilkie’s favorite course to teach is Pre-calculus, which will comprise most of his assignment at CCES. For the past 4 years, he has also served as a Regional Instructor for Texas Instruments (graphing calculators). Prior to Woodmont, he taught in Virginia, New York state, and Texas.  Mr. Wilkie appeared as an actor this summer in Catch Me If You Can at Greenville Theatre, and he will coach girls golf at CCES.  He was conferred a BS in Mathematics from Fredonia State University, and a Masters in Social Foundations in Education from the University of Virginia, and lives with his wife Amanda, a physical therapist, and children Cameron (10), Alex (7), and Kevin (4).

Mr. John Windham, Physical Education
Mr. Windham will take over many of the school-day responsibilities for Coach Frost, teaching Physical Education, proctoring study halls, and serving as an advisor.  While Coach Bobo is now Head Football Coach, Coach Windham serves as Defensive Coordinator, helping prepare our Cavalier football team for their first game this Friday.  He attended Brentwood Academy in Tennessee, and subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Vanderbilt University, where he was a 4 year starter on the football team, and a Master of Education degree from Mississippi State University. Coach Windham signed a contract with the New England Patriots out of college, and has served as Head Football Coach at Sewanee: the University of the South for 11 years; as Defensive Coordinator at Colorado College, Gardner-Webb University, and Furman University; and most recently, as Head Football Coach and Physical Education teacher at Easley HS for the past 4 years.  His family consists of wife Heather; daughter Maizy, a rising 12th grader at Eastside HS; son Woods, a 9th grader at CCES; and son Judd, a rising 6th grader.
