The Impact of Learning Differences on Executive Function

by Jamie Bryant, Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications

Lane Abrams, NCC, BCC,
11th Grade Dean of Students, and Upper School Learning Specialist presented yesterday at the SAIS: Academic Support Conference on “The Impact of Learning Differences on Executive Function.”

“Learning Differences have a direct impact on executive functioning abilities in students,” Lane said. “It is often overlooked, especially in middle and upper school where we expect teenagers to manage day-to-day activities. It is frequently frustrating for students, parents, and teachers when a student is struggling to implement executive functioning skills.”

The session covered why these skills are important, how to better support students in the classroom and how to identify the learning differences where executive function deficits are most common.

She had a packed room with 75 in attendance, way to go Lane!
