SPOTLIGHT ON: Peter Baer, CCES CLASS OF 2020

Christ Church Episcopal School experiences have prepared graduating seniors for whatever comes next and to make a positive difference in the world. Each week, we will put the spotlight on a graduating senior from the Class of 2020.  We hope you enjoy getting to know these amazing CCES students! 
 
It is certainly not easy to transfer in the middle of the school year, but Peter Baer calls his transition process “seamless,” due in large part to the community here at CCES. Peter transferred to the Upper School in the middle of his sophomore year and has loved his time here. He calls his experience at CCES “amazing” and praises the faculty, staff, his fellow students and coaches for being “incredibly friendly and helpful.” Peter is a member of the Varsity Boys Lacrosse team and is a member of the Sporting Clays Club and Ducks Unlimited.
 
Speaking of extracurriculars, while not an official CCES activity, Peter is also very passionate about (drum roll, please)… COOKING! He says, “I discovered my passion for cooking through a feeling of self-reliance I’ve always sort of had, along with the cooking merit badge that I completed during my time in the Boy Scouts.” He enjoys coming up with new recipes and fun food combinations. He watches a lot of cooking shows on YouTube, Netflix and The Food Network, but his main inspiration is family friends (which he credits as his inspiration for his amazing Duck Poppers)!
 
While the Boy Scouts jump-started his cooking career, Peter continued on to earn his Eagle Scout rank during his junior year. He calls this the biggest award he’s earned during his time at CCES. Other achievements he is proud of include: being named to the Honor and High Honor Roll and receiving an Honorable Mention on the National Spanish Exam during his junior year.
 
“Peter is extremely personable, level-headed, and genuinely interested in the lives of others,” said Bartley Sides, his college counselor. “His teachers describe him as conscientious” and Mr. Sides is confident that “Peter’s success and admiration from teachers will continue as he enters college in the fall.”
 
Peter applied to a few different schools, including the University of Alabama, University of Georgia, and James Madison University. Peter states he was looking for “a big school atmosphere with strong academics and competitive athletics” and he found that at Alabama. He knew when he visited the school that it was “the right fit” for him. He plans on pursuing a degree in Business and would like a career in sales or marketing.

Favorite class at CCES? World War II with Mr. Burford.
Favorite Celebrity Chef? Jon Favreau because he’s not a chef and is learning just like everyone else.
Three things you can’t go to college without? My Clint Eastwood poster, my Bose noise-canceling headphones, and my car keys.
What’s the unexpected ingredient in your special pizza sauce? Cinnamon.
Best movie you’ve seen in the last year? Rio Bravo (1959) starring John Wayne and Dean Martin.
