Upper School Student Hampton Orr Petitions Greenville City Council

At CCES, students are taught that empathy is an exceedingly valuable virtue and that one must take time to truly understand the experiences and emotions of others. In the midst of our current health crisis, Hampton Orr, a CCES sophomore, transformed her own feelings of empathy into action by creating a petition to create fines for those who refuse to wear masks in Greenville County. Worried about her elderly grandparents and at-risk individuals, she believes that everyone should be more conscious and mindful of the health and safety of those around them. “I wrote in my petition that both of my grandparents have health issues and are elderly, which even before the pandemic was a huge problem for my family since it’s just me, my mom, my sister, my stepdad, and them. As a CCES student, they have always been very encouraging in whatever school endeavors I pursue, whether it be English, Latin, or the school musical.” Hampton wants not only to protect her loved ones through this difficult and strange time, but also protect everyone who is important and essential to others. We’re proud to see her modeling those virtues that CCES teaches and reveres and hope that she continues to fight for a difference.
