Basketball Center John Butler Jr. Commits to Florida State

by Kim Gendron, Athletics Social Media Coordinator

John Butler Jr. had the decision of where to play college basketball narrowed down to six schools: Alabama, Georgia Tech, Florida State, University of South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest. His announcement was scheduled for Wednesday, July 29 at 3pm. He was joined by his family and Athletic Director, Molly Miller, and his commitment was streamed live from McCall Field House.

Prior to announcing his decision, John gave a long list of thank you’s, starting with God, for making it possible for him to have this incredible opportunity. He went on to thank his parents, his brothers, other influential coaches and mentors, CCES and various basketball programs that have helped him get to where he is today. He thanked the various coaches and recruiters who gave a lot of their time to provide information and details when he could not make official visits due to the pandemic saying he is “just so blessed” for the opportunity and the time they spent with him.

“I would like to thank my parents for all the sacrifices they made just to put in the best situations for me to grow and prosper,” John said. “I would to thank Christ Church for allowing me to attend this school and display many of my gifts.”

In the end, he chose his school because he thought it was the best fit and a place where he believes they will put him in situations that give him the best chance to accomplish his goals. John took off his sweatshirt to reveal his Florida State t-shirt underneath and with a huge smile, announced his commitment to play for the Florida State Seminoles and Coach Leonard Hamilton.
