Three CCES Student-Athletes Sign To Play Collegiate Athletics
Christ Church Episcopal School celebrated the successes of three of our senior athletes yesterday, April 14, during a signing ceremony. Family, teammates, coaches, and select school officials gathered – distanced and masked – to watch Sarah Allen, Mollie Folk, and Max Morgan sign letters of intent. Sarah Allen will be playing tennis at Elon University in Elon, North Carolina, Mollie Folk will be swimming at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and Max Morgan will be playing football at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Athletic Director, Molly Miller, thanked family, coaches, administration, teachers, friends, and teammates for their support, both in athletic endeavors and in the classroom as they have helped to shape each of these seniors into the students, athletes, and people they are today. She specifically thanked both Head of School, David Padilla and our phenomenal college counseling team for making this event possible, despite the current circumstances. Molly went on to expand on all three students, sharing quotes from both teachers and coaches.
Sarah Allen is described by her teachers as a tireless worker, a positive force, an insightful contributor and someone who brings joy with “a smile for everyone.” Not only is she “not detoured by setbacks,” but she is able to “turn them into learning experiences for future improvement.”
Head Varsity Girls Tennis Coach, Sherry Adams, noted that in the six years she has coached her, Sarah has “always achieved a balance” in regards to school, training, practice, and matches. In addition to Sarah’s grit and resilience, she has “always embraced challenges with a ‘never give up’ attitude.” Coach Adams stated she has “absolute confidence” in Sarah’s ability to succeed, in regards to collegiate tennis and “all other aspects of life.”
Mollie Folk is described by her teachers as confident, reliable, gifted, conscientious, and “a genuinely nice human being.” They share that Mollie is open to constructive criticism and that while she “seeks perfection” in all that she does, she never lets “this quest paralyze her potential.”
Varsity Swim Coach, Matt Jacobssen, noted that Mollie’s key contributions to the team “far exceed her fast swims.” He calls her “fundamental to the growth and success of the swim team” in that her leadership and character have been “instrumental in establishing a culture of high expectations with loving support.” Jacobssen concludes that “the Emory Eagles will be a better team” for having Mollie on it.
Max Morgan is described by his teachers as relentless, possessing a great attitude, committed, and “willing to go the extra mile.” They share that he is an extremely hard worker, and someone who “understands the necessary balance between academic work and the development of a broader sense of self.”
Head Football Coach, Quin Hatfield, calls Max Morgan the type of player who “leads by example.” He shares that not only is Max’s work ethic “second to none,” but he also has a “high degree to self-awareness,” in that he is “comfortable with who he is and he doesn’t compromise his standards, on or off the field.” Hatfield sums it up by stating: “I’m grateful for the opportunity I had to coach him and the impact he made on our program.”
Congratulations to Sarah, Mollie, and Max on all of their accomplishments at Christ Church and those to come in this next chapter! While they will soon be competing for different teams, they will always be Cavaliers to us! Go Cavs!
