Spotlight On: Gerald Stathakis, CCES Class of 2021

 

 

When an administrator says that every single one of her interactions with Gerald improves her mood, you know you have a special student in your midst.  Whether cultivated, or innate, Gerald Stathakis has a depth rarely found in someone his age.  Profound insights and understanding, application of critical thinking to every situation he encounters, and a genuinely joyful state of mind

define him with a unique air of sophistication and spirit.

 

Having been at CCES since the 7^th grade, Gerald chose Wake Forest University “because it is a smaller school that reflects the school environment I have enjoyed at Christ Church.”  He also selected WF for its exceptional liberal arts program, as he is currently undecided on a major.  Gerald applied to Clemson University, University of Richmond, Mercer University, and High Point University, as well.  The Deamon Deacon, undoubtedly one of the more dignified amongst mascots, shares a lot with Gerald.  The mascot brings a special element to Wake Forest’s campus, blending tradition, sports, and religion, while sparking a sense of amusement among fans.  Put him on a motorcycle and you realize this old man is every bit adventurous.  Enter Gerald.  One of our school chaplains shares, “​Gerald has a ​pastoral quality ​to him.  He ​exudes kindness, ​and this trait, married with his ​ability to listen and invite people into the conversation, ​makes him a very mature young adult.”  He’s been called “an old soul,” “a little gentleman,” “impressively adventurous,” and someone who “brings humor to the group.”  He loves to banter with friends and adults, and he is great with kids.  Gerald will no doubt contribute a special element to Wake Forest’s campus. 

 

For somebody who came to CCES late in Middle School, Gerald is the embodiment of what it means to be a Cavalier.  He is a member of the dynamic 9-1 Varsity Soccer Team; Students in Action; an Ecuador Short Term Mission participant, where he joined with two other students to plan a fundraiser for the families he met in Ecuador; a dedicated member of several Greek youth organizations; and a member of the CCES Orchestra through his sophomore year.  Gerald is a high-performing student who will have completed 8 AP classes (with Honor) by the time he graduates (two of which he scored a 4 and two of which he scored a 5 on), and was a recipient of the Cavalier Award in soccer his Sophomore year.  Gerald is often referred to as a bright student, but it is his positive attitude, hard work, and contributions to the conversation that his teachers consistently praise. 

 

“Gerald is extremely involved in extracurricular activities, but the accomplishment that stands out the most is his sense of ​responsibility and commitment,” Lindsey Waters, Associate Director of College Counseling, notes.​  “Gerald has held a summer job for the past two years, plays soccer year-round, and ​manages to juggle a healthy social life and extracurriculars while achieving excellent grades and glowing teacher comments.​”

Who has been your favorite instructor at CCES? Mrs. Ferguson

If you could create one mandatory course for future seniors, what would it be?  I would create a course that focused on teaching seniors skills in life that they would previously be unaware of. 

What is the best thing about your Greek heritage?  Definitely the life lessons I have learned through my connection and service of the Greek community. We also have really good food.
