Second Graders Support our Troops through Letter-Writing

by Jamie Bryant, Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications

One way to communicate our support and thanks to our troops is by writing directly to a deployed soldier, and this is precisely what the entire CCES second grade did this past week.  All students wrote letters to active military members thanking them for their service.  Two students in Ms. Seeley’s class, Bradley Kate and Lia, share a cousin, Spencer Davis, who is serving in the United States Air Force.  Students are specifically writing to his troop, which just deployed.  Spencer is from Greenville and this is his second deployment.  Bradley Kate’s mom, Deedi, stopped by on Wednesday to pick up the letters and mail them out, along with a care package.  “I know it will be a special treat to know the CCES community is thinking of him,” she said.  “It would certainly lift their spirits.”

Teachers encouraged the students to be positive, respectful, kind, and encouraging when writing their letters. One student wrote, “Thank you for protecting our country and keeping us safe from the bad.”

Ms. Seeley said her students were excited and full of questions when she announced the project.  “They recognize how important these men and women are, and they were excited to write to them.”  Learning about jobs in the community and how our community is protected will be covered in their upcoming IB unit of study.

Thank you, second graders, for thinking of our troops.  These letters are sure to uplift, encourage, and brighten their day!
